CAIT AND LAURIE
Every now and then the universe throws you a zinger. All you can do is catch it. Cait and Laurie contacted me about their wedding plans - a wedding in a fort on Jersey in the Channel Islands. My first thought was of course "sign me up", but nothing in life is ever so simple. I had a wedding the day before in the UK. What to do? I applaud Cait and Laurie's ballsy-ness (is that a word?). They agreed for me to fly out to Jersey on the morning of their wedding. Now my worst nightmare is being late, for anything. Ask my wife, I'm a pain in the butt in this regard and I'd rather be an hour early than 2 minutes late. Well, as you can guess, being late for a wedding would be like all of my hells rolled into one giant chilli filled tortilla covered in gasoline - not good. Needless to say I was a nervous wreck at the airport, constantly checking the departure boards, praying the word "delayed" was nowhere near my flight. Well, the FlyBe Gods were on my side this day and we left terra firma on time. I breathed for the first time that morning.
I met Cait and Laurie at Le Catel Fort while they were still setting things up. Cait being a florist had created the most beautiful touches dotted around the place and the whole venue was just plain cool. Overlooking a small bay and the gentle waves beyond, this place was epic - I had lucked in. Afterwards I nipped to grab some lunch while the guys took some time together and got ready. I picked them up from their hotel (wedding photographer/chaffeur) and we headed back to the fort near the beach of Greve de Lecq for the ceremony. Cait and Laurie greeted their guests and then once the stragglers arrived they did their "I do's". A gorgeous little place this was with a small window spilling just enough light through onto the ceremony for me to be a happy bunny.
Afterwards Cait, Laurie and I headed off for some portraits before following the buses, which had picked up the guests, to The Boat House in St Aubin. Here everyone was treated to oysters, a meal which looked pretty damn ace and as much booze as they could stomach. Then it was dancing, prancing and just general late night shenanigans before I doffed my cap to all and headed off to find my hotel and the early morning flight home.
I had an absolute ball in Jersey with these guys. They let me in and they let me do my thing and I will be forever grateful I was able to spend this most epic of times with them.
