Matt and Peter

Two grooms at their same sex wedding at Morden Hall.

Morden Hall in South West London is one of those hidden gems of a wedding venue. Surrounded by the rumbling traffic and hustle and bustle of Londoners going about their day, You would not expect to find what lies behind the walls. Drive through the gates and you’re presented with almost what could be described as a country estate. Lush gardens, streams, woods, the list goes on. You do not feel like you’re in the middle of a city. As a wedding venue in London, you feel like you’re anywhere but.

Matt and Peter got in touch a while back after I’d shot their pals wedding. They mentioned that I’d done an ok job and that they’d like me to have a crack at their wedding photos for them too. ‘Sign me up’ I said. And so it was that on a damp November morning I headed for the big smoke and to capture Matt and Peter and all of their love for one another.

To break from tradition, they decided to get ready together. To remove the stress, and anxiety, and just because, getting ready together seems like the logical thing to do. I hung out with them and their pals as they decorated the cake, made finishing touches to the venue, chatted to the florist and honestly just relaxed (whilst eating the biggest sausage rolls I’ve ever seen). Every time I’ve shot a wedding like this - with the couple getting ready together - there has always been a real sense of calm over the morning. It’s so lush.

Once they were ready we went off for a quick ten minute photoshoot around the grounds, trying to dodge the incoming rain, and to capture some frames unhurried by the need to get back to guests and canapés. This way we simply spent what time we wanted to create some images and capture some real authentic moments. These guys embraced everything about their day, and I am truly honoured to have spent it with them.

Here’s Matt and Peter’s same sex wedding at Morden Hall in all it’s glory.
