London Wedding Photography with a Thames River Cruise

Where do you begin with this one? As was the case with many weddings this past year or so, postponements reared its head. For Tara and Andy though it was especially brutal as they had to postpone with just a few days notice as Tara got the dreaded positive test. Urgh. But, in true Tara fashion, she didn’t panic or stress and they simply pushed their wedding back a month. And so, slightly later than planned, we headed for London for just about the coolest wedding you can imagine. I mean, we hopped on a paddle steamer and went for a cruise up the Thames for goodness sake.

I met up with Tara and the girls at The Dixon hotel, a stones throw from Tower Bridge, for the morning preparations. I adore London weddings - everywhere you look there is a picture to be had, even through the windows of the hotels. Sadly Tara’s mum was unable to make the trip from Hong Kong for the wedding, so technology came to the rescue. It’s sad that so many people have had to miss out on seeing their nearest and dearest tie the knot, but on the other hand if this had happened 20 years ago without the current tech we have, then they wouldn’t have been able to see it at all. Every cloud I guess.

We then headed for the Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in what can only be described as an utter deluge. I got frankly soaked even in the short run from hotel to cab to church. That being said, I love the photos of the girls running for cover under umbrellas. Weddings throw all sorts of challenges at you, not least the British weather.

Another thing I love about London weddings - the hidden gems. Heading down rope quay for some pics with all the flags, diving into a florists for a quick pics, the blue roller shutters, ah man I adore London for weddings. We arrived Pique Nique for the wedding meal and speeches (and a barrel load of Espresso Martinis) before the stroll to the river to board The Elizabethan - a paddle steamer which took us on a cruise up and down the river. Being during the peak of Euro 2020, every bridge we seemed under was greeted with cheers, “It’s coming home” and general merriment (with some rather bewildered people on the bridges).

It’s fair to say I had a blast. Here’s Tara and Andy’s day as I saw it.
