Sian and Tom’s Wedding At Groomes Near Bordon, Hampshire
I find it crazy that even after over 10 years of shooting weddings, and having lived in Hampshire for all of that time, I am still shooting weddings at venues that not only have I not shot at before, but never even heard of. Honestly there are so many hidden gems out there, and such is the case with Groomes near Bordon. When Sian and Tom reached out to me about their wedding plans, quite a few things caught my attention - firstly, obviously, how much they liked my work and were totally in alignment with how I like to shoot a wedding (natural, relaxed, fun, all that jazz), next was this new venue I’d not heard of, and lastly the small matter of a hot air balloon(!). And so it was that in early May I was headed for Groomes to shoot their wedding and take a balloon ride, as you do.
One thing I really love at a wedding is when the couple get ready in the same place. Not necesarily seeing each other, but together in the same house or hotel. It kinda adds a little to the excitement knowing that your significant other is close by, and I can run between the two capturing both and sharing the goss (“yep, Tom is dressed. No, he couldn’t do his tie. Yes, Sian looks insanely amazing” that sort of thing). Grooomes had that benefit, Tom and the guys getting ready downstairs while the girls were upstairs. It’s very lush indeed.
They braved the unpredictable British weather and went for an outdoor wedding and they tottaly lucked in. There was a shower or two about, but the timings worked out and we managed to dodge them, plus I don’t think Sian and Tom would have cared at all - Sian was quite literally up for anything and completely embraced the day. I say it often, but you can have a clean wedding dress or a fun day, you can’t have both. Sian opted for the latter, and her and Tom had an utter blast as a result. They even had Tom’s other passion, tractors, dotted about. There was so much to see, and so much going on, which leads me onto the hot air balloon. Yes they went up in it. Yes, I did too. It was cramped, and the blow torch just above my head hurt like hell, but it was sooooo worth it. What a quite incredible day.
Anyway, here’s my take on Sian and Tom’s day at Groomes in Hampshire.
