I love nothing more than a wedding venue that isn’t a wedding venue. Makes sense huh? What I mean by that is, of course what we all think of as “wedding venues” are on the whole lush, but what I really love is when a couple go for something a bit different. And nothing screams wedding venue quite like a brewery of course (insert a joke about organising a drink fuelled party in a brewery here). Laura and Dan were one such couple, and they went for the quite incredible Hook Norton Brewery near Banbury for their big day. And I was lucky enough to photograph it.
I have known Laura for what seems like forever, harking back to my days working in a record shop (very long story). What I love about this job is that you never know the connections that you make over your life that will have a way of taking turns you never saw coming. With Laura and Dan’s wedding, this was now the 4th member of their friendship group whose weddings I have photographed, and if you’d have told me that would happen when I was 17 I’d have laughed. Life’s a funny old thing. But it’s also extremely cool that I got trusted 4 times by the same bunch. I must be doing something right.
I met Laura and Dan at a cool little rental cottage on a farm where they all got ready next door to each other - no peeking! They are such a fun group, and even the folk I’d never met before made me feel at home. They were very much ready for a good old party.
The ceremony was in the building adjacent to the main brewery, which gave it a nice, self-contained feeling. What really made my day though was getting to take Laura and Dan for some pics in the old brewery itself which dates from the late 19th century. It totally got my creative juices flowing, and I always love the contrast between wedding couple looking all fine and dandy and the industrial backdrop of locations like this. I had a blast.
