Mel & Carl

There is nothing I love more than a wedding venue that doesn’t feel like a wedding venue. And there’s also nothing I love more than a couple who embrace everything I am about, and who let their emotions and their true selves just hang out there for all to see. This is Mel and Carl. And this is Gambledown Farm. I always know it’s going to be a good day when I arrive and nobody changes their behaviour. They accept me into their worlds and just be “them”. It’s impossible for a dude with a camera to hide in a room full of giggling bridesmaids, so I don’t try to. This bunch just let me observe and capture them getting their Mel ready for her big day and I was blessed to be able to. It was a bit lush.

Gambledown Farm is such an intimate venue, you can literally peer out of where you get ready and you can see the guests taking their seats. It builds the excitement which quite frankly was already pretty high. Mel and Carl had a celebrant led ceremony (seriously people, why doesn’t everyone??) so they could have their ceremony exactly how they wanted it. Personal, heartfelt, humorous. Perfect. After this was in the bag we managed to pull of a confetti shot for the AGES before everyone got stuck into food, booze, fun and all of the hugging. Honestly, I’ve not shot a wedding quite so full of hugs as this one.

After all of this, just as the sun dipped, I took Mel & Carl for a walk and some pics of them looking all cool and in love. It was an absolute peach of a shoot, and getting to explore this venue with fresh eyes was pretty sweet (their safari tents are just the best wedding accommodation idea I’ve seen in a long time!). We laughed, got silly, they got close and did a fair amount of smooching before we headed back for the party to end all parties. In short, this day rocked.

Here’s Mel and Carl’s wedding at Gambledown Farm as I saw it.
