Bucket lists. We’ve all got them in one form or another. Some us have things on them like “do a parachute jump” or “run the London Marathon”. You know, vaguely normal things. Well, we sad wedding photographers’ bucket lists tend to have things like “shoot a wedding at The Asylum Chapel London” on theirs.

You may ask “Who would be sad enough to have something like that on their bucket list?”.

Well, I do. And back in September I well and truly ticked it off my list.

Where to even begin. I am not usually fussed by venues - to me what matters most is the people. The decor, the venue, the dress, it’s all secondary to the people at the wedding, and the couple in particular. Getting to know and become friends with each couple I shoot is one of the absolute best things about this job. But come on, it’s The Asylum Chapel London!! With it’s faded walls, the dilapidated yet romantic edifice has become somewhat legendary, and when you add to the mix the light you get inside the place, Carly and Mark would be hard pressed to top it. But top it they did.

Carly and Mark are two radiant souls who everything and everyone seems to gravitate towards. Their love for one another, for their friends, and even for little old me, is truly special. They give. They hug. They accept. They appreciate talent, wherever it resides (check out the impromptu dance to the busker), and they are just absolute sweethearts. I honestly can’t speak highly enough of them.

I met Carly and Mark at their hotel (fear not, separate rooms for all you tradition lovers) and I was able to jump between rooms to capture the various stages of the build. Again, love everywhere - hugs and tears aplenty. We then hopped into cabs for the drive to Peckham and the wedding ceremony at The Asylum, followed by a bus ride to Browns Restaurant at West India Quay for gin, speeches, dancing, more gin, and everything else.

I am one lucky so and so to have met such people, and to be able to spend the day documenting their love. Here’s Carly and Mark’s wedding at the Asylum Chapel London as I saw it.
