Somerley House, not too far from Ringwood on the edge of the New Forest is one of those places which just “gets” what a wedding venue should be. Attentive, attractive, interesting, and it should have bags of personality. This kinda sums up Lakshmii and Atahavan too.

Lakshmii and Atahavan had two weddings (as you do). They has their Sri Lankan traditional wedding a week or so beforehand, and then headed to Somerley House for their civil ceremony, which I was pretty lucky to be able to capture. Lucky also to get to see this dress. From Needle and Thread, this wasn’t your standard wedding dress by any means, and yet it absolutely works as a wedding dress. More and more brides are embracing this – who says what a wedding dress is or what it should be?

The main ballroom of Somerley House needs to be seen to be believed. It’s cavernous size is matched only by it’s opulent decor. As places go to shoot a wedding, this was up there. As couples go to shoot, this pair are up there too.

Here’s Lakshmii and Athavan’s day as I saw it.
